Privacy Policy

Your Privacy Matters

Know exactly what data we collect and how we use it.

This policy covers all roles on KIK-Konnect (Customer, Service Provider, and Area Agent), including location, payments, KYC, chat, and notifications. Please read it carefully.

1. Overview & Acceptance

This Privacy Policy explains how KIK-Konnect ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects your personal data when you use the KIK-Konnect platform, whether as a Customer, Service Provider, Area Agent, or Administrator.

KIK-Konnect is a location-based service marketplace operating in Nigeria that connects customers with verified local service providers (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, cleaning, and more) through an escrow-protected booking and payment system.

By creating an account, booking a service, listing your services, or acting as an agent, you consent to the data practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, you should not use the platform.

A single user account may hold both Customer and Service Provider roles simultaneously. This policy applies to all roles linked to your account.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal data depending on your role(s) on the platform:

Account & Identity Data: Full name, email address, phone number, profile photo, and password (hashed). These are required to create and authenticate your account.

Customer Data: Home address (including GPS coordinates), preferred contact method, territory assignment, phone/email verification status, booking history, loyalty points, and saved addresses.

Service Provider Data: Business name, service categories, service area location (GPS coordinates), bank account details for withdrawals, availability status, ratings, completed jobs, and performance tier. Identity verification (KYC) documents such as government-issued IDs and selfies are NOT collected or stored by us; they are submitted directly to and handled by Sumsub, our licensed third-party identity verification provider.

Area Agent Data: Full name, phone, email, assigned territory IDs, commission share, recruitment records, dispute resolution history, and earnings.

Booking & Location Data: Precise service location (house number, street, landmark, directions, GPS coordinates), service description, photos/media uploaded with the booking, urgency level, scheduled time, and status timeline.

Payment & Wallet Data: Wallet balance, escrow holdings, transaction history (deposits, withdrawals, escrow holds/releases, commissions, tips, refunds), external payment provider references, and bank verification details.

Communication Data: In-app chat messages between customers and providers (including any media shared), flagged messages, and read receipts.

Device & Usage Data: IP address, device type, browser/app version, approximate location, push notification tokens, and activity logs (actions taken on the platform).

Assistance Request Data: When a customer requests agent help, we store the booking location, service needed, customer contact details, notes, and nearby providers already checked.

3. How We Use Your Location Data

Location is central to how KIK-Konnect works. We use your location to match customers with nearby providers, calculate distances, route agent assistance requests to the nearest agent, and verify service area eligibility.

Customer home address: Stored to pre-fill booking locations and determine service area eligibility. GPS coordinates are stored but only used for matching and distance calculation.

Booking service location: The precise address (house number, street, landmark, directions) provided during booking is shared with the assigned provider so they can reach the service location. This is necessary to fulfill the service.

Provider service area location: Stored to calculate proximity to customer bookings. However, the public profile shown to customers displays only a broad, anonymized location (Area/LGA/State), never your exact address or coordinates.

Agent territory: Agents are assigned territories. When a customer requests help, the request is routed to the agent whose territory contains the booking location, or the nearest agent by distance.

You can withdraw location permission at any time through your device settings, but this will limit your ability to book or receive jobs.

4. KYC & Identity Verification

Service Providers must complete Know-Your-Customer (KYC) verification before being approved. Identity verification is handled by Sumsub, a licensed third-party verification provider. You submit your government-issued ID and selfie directly to Sumsub through their secure SDK; we do not collect, view, or store these confidential documents.

Sumsub reviews the documents and returns only a verification result (pass/fail and review status) to us. We store this status on your profile. The underlying documents remain with Sumsub under their own data retention and privacy policy. A GREEN result sets your profile to "verified", but your account stays "pending" until a platform administrator manually activates it.

Area Agents and Administrators see only the verification status, never the raw documents.

KYC data is retained for the duration of your provider account and may be kept for a reasonable period after account closure to comply with legal and anti-fraud obligations.

5. Payments, Wallet & Escrow

KIK-Konnect uses an external payment provider for wallet top-ups, escrow funding, and provider withdrawals. We do not store your full card numbers or banking login credentials. The external payment provider handles all sensitive payment data securely.

When you fund a booking, the funds are held in escrow until the service is confirmed complete by the customer. Funds are then released to the provider, minus the platform commission and any agent commission share.

Transaction records (amounts, types, references, dates) are stored in your wallet history and may be used for dispute resolution, accounting, and regulatory compliance.

For cash-based jobs, providers may accumulate a commission debt balance that must be settled periodically.

6. In-App Chat & Message Monitoring

Customers and providers can communicate via in-app chat once a booking is created. Messages may include text, images, and location pins.

Our system automatically monitors chat messages for the sharing of phone numbers and other contact details, which may be flagged to prevent off-platform transactions that bypass escrow protection.

Chat history is stored for the duration of the booking and may be retained for dispute resolution and safety investigations.

7. Notifications & Communications

We send you notifications about booking updates, payment confirmations, provider assignments, dispute statuses, and platform announcements.

Notifications may be delivered via in-app alerts, email, SMS, and push notifications (using device push tokens). You can manage your notification preferences (email/SMS, reminder timing) in Settings.

Service-related communications (reminders 24h, 1h, or 15min before a scheduled booking) are sent based on your preferences.

8. How We Use Your Data

We use your personal data to: create and manage your account; match customers with nearby providers; process bookings, payments, and escrow; verify provider identities; resolve disputes; route agent assistance; send notifications and reminders; improve our matching algorithms and service quality; comply with legal obligations; and prevent fraud, abuse, and off-platform violations.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

9. Data Sharing & Disclosure

We share data only as necessary to operate the platform:

Between users: When a booking is created, the customer's service location and contact details are shared with the assigned provider, and the provider's business name, rating, and broad location are shared with the customer. Full contact details are exchanged only after a booking is accepted.

With our external payment provider: Payment and bank verification data is shared with the external payment provider to process transactions. The provider's privacy policy applies to data they collect.

With Area Agents: Agents may access customer contact details and booking locations for requests routed to them, solely to help find and assign a suitable provider.

With service providers: We may use third-party hosting, email delivery, and SMS providers who process data on our behalf under data processing agreements.

For legal compliance: We may disclose data to law enforcement or government authorities if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or the platform.

10. Data Security

We implement technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encrypted password storage, role-based access controls, and secure payment processing through Paystack.

KYC documents and payment references are stored with access restricted to authorized agents and administrators only.

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but we strive to protect your data using commercially acceptable means.

11. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. Booking records, transaction history, and KYC documents may be retained for up to 7 years after account closure for legal, tax, and dispute resolution purposes.

Chat messages are retained for the booking duration and a reasonable period thereafter for safety and dispute resolution.

You may request deletion of your account and personal data, subject to legal retention obligations.

12. Your Rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023 and the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) where applicable, you have the right to:

Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.

Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.

Erasure: Request deletion of your data, subject to legal retention obligations.

Restriction: Request that we limit the processing of your data.

Data Portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.

Objection: Object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing.

Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent for data processing that relies on consent at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the details provided in Section 16.

13. Children's Privacy

KIK-Konnect is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
